The team had such a great day at this year's Hunslet Festival on Saturday where we had our own stall to promote and raise funds for the station. Several of us ventured into the busy crowds to record interviews and audio insight so expect to hear them in an upcoming 'Best Of SLR' programme.
Two of our trustees, Ian Logan and Steve Thompson, are organisers of the event, and both were delighted with how the day unfolded. We enjoyed great entertainment in the main arena from local dancers, dogs and entertainers, while Gala classics such as Tombola, areas for animal interaction and Punch and Judy helped everyone have a lot of fun in the sun.
Hunslet Festival is a continuation of a legacy running back over 120 years according to some amazing BFI footage from 1904 we've seen, and this 16th edition under its current guise was our second of three straight weekends at great events in South Leeds, after we enjoyed Beeston Festival the weekend prior, and we'll be the Holbeck Gala this Saturday, 7th July.
Being at events in the area with our flyers - expertly distributed by Anthony from the Hub - are helping to raise the profile of the station and what we're doing in the community. As we did on Saturday, we hope to continue to meet as many people, animals, politicians, performers and puppets as possible going forward, and hopefully all of those and more will be hearing us as the year unfolds (perhaps Punch & Judy might have some trouble).
